Time’s A-Wastin’
In case you were wondering, my birthday is coming up, March 21st. Don’t worry, you have 53 days. Plus, if you have any contact with me whatsoever, I’m sure I’ll mention it again.
I bring up my birthday for your benefit, dear readers. I know you are worried about getting me the right present. It’s a valid fear. Many of you currently struggle with the guilt of giving me the wrong Christmas gift. Nothing was, in fact, not the gift I hoped for from my devoted readers. But, as a caring and gentle friend, I forgive you. I want to help you.
On that magnanimous note, I am introducing a new feature called “Things I Would Like to Have, But Am Unlikely to Buy for Myself.” *
In this new feature I will be periodically introducing Martha-appropriate gift ideas. Not only will this give you an itemized shopping list, but also you will have ideas for fun conversations that we might have in the future.
Example conversation:
Me drearily: Oh hello.
You cheerily: Hi, Martha! I hear you like [insert gift idea]! I like to give that sort of stuff to my friends and favorite bloggers.
Me interestedly: Oh, really? Let’s drink champagne cocktails and have a long, entertaining conversation based on our mutual interests!
I. A Naval Present?
While at the library today, I ran across this book.
1. It is an encyclopedia, which I love. They are excellent for learning.
2. It has pictures and drawings, both in color.
3. It is about battleships, which, HULLO! is one of my favorite topics.
II. “And I thought they smelled bad…on the outside!”
Though I don’t think I have had a sleeping bag since I was 7, I obviously need this one.
If I have to explain to you why I desperately need this, then you will not do well in the aforementioned conversation.
III. A Fixer-Upper
I want this house.
I have never really been tempted by home ownership before, but I walk by this house every day, and I love it. Look at that adorable red door! Suddenly I am thinking about buying, rather than renting, and what kind of tile I might like to have in the kitchen (incidentally, I would like subway tiles like these).
I’m not saying I am going to buy this house, I am just saying that I wouldn’t hate it if someone bought it for me.
Those are all of the suggestions for now. Please update your shopping lists. I will keep you abreast of any further changes.
And remember…it doesn’t have to be a holiday to give me a present!
*This is a “working title”, likely to be revised later.
